Gush time: It was amazing. Was captivated 99.9% of the time. About a minute in I thought ‘oh, this is going to be good’ and it was that and more. For something that is not a particularly new or special story it was done brilliantly. It had just the right mix of comedy/action/romance, light-hearted/tragedy, good/evil, past/present. Every character and scene had purpose and personality. It was so amazing I started watching from the first episode again immediately after finishing the drama, which is how the .5 times came about. The second time I was able to relax and just focus on Ji Chang-wook’s sexiness.

This drama doesn’t seem to be as watched as the really famous ones. I think because it was running at the same time as Pinocchio, it was overshadowed by the more loved and known Lee Jong-suk and Park Shin-hye. So only us major non-Korean drama fans may have heard of and watched Healer. The not as hardcore fans probably haven’t heard of it over Pinocchio’s hype, my friend hasn’t anyway. Although it did gain a bit of fame after Pinocchio’s hype died down, or so I feel.

Edit: Someone mentioned that the ‘secret place’ Bong-soo took her on the roof was the adult version of the Secret-Secret Island. Now I need to watch it again to confirm it. Or just watch it again. There’s so many tiny little aspects of this drama that even now I’m still discovering. This is why this drama is so great. I really want to watch it again.

That smirk!

I hadn’t heard of Ji Chang-wook before this drama but he was so attractive in it. I was captivated at the first close up and could see his orange tinted lips. That sounds weird but it’s true! Even though he’s good looking, he’s a plain good looking person, so he needs a focus point of attractiveness and his is his lips. So I’m watching his other dramas now!

He is a brilliant actor. His character is a blend of cool and awkward. Doesn’t that sounds odd! But he pulled it off, he really did and it was so cute, especially his awkwardness around Chae Young-shin’s father. He never knew what to say or do, especially when trying to explain things, so Young-shin has to explain. Cute! He also had to act as the pathetic, scared Park Bong-soo while being Healer underneath which was also extremely cute.

❤ ❤ ❤ in dork mode at work and at home ❤ ❤ ❤

The actor for young Moon-shik is cute in a young man way, I like him to the point where I can’t match the young and old versions.

All the characters were really likable which is a rarity. Woo Hee-jin who acts as Moon-ho’s ex-girlfriend is so pretty, she doesn’t look fully Korean though. I can’t believe she’s 40 years old! She has the mature elegance of one but she doesn’t look it!

One thing I really love about this drama is how Young-shin is not a typical pathetic girl and isn’t ever treated like one. Not by her father or lover or older brother-like figure. Yes she may not be able to fight but she’s got real strength of character. She’s even the one who initiates the second kiss and it isn’t a shy little peck but a gentle, long, loving make out.

Actually all the women in this drama aren’t pathetic and annoying, which is usually my problem with Korean dramas, the women. The ahjumma is an amazing hacker and I love all her quirks. I also really love her friendship with Jung-hoo, they are the cutest. There’s Taemi who plays Jung-hoo’s helper. The actress is actually part of the K-Tigers Taekwondo team and is famous for doing all these amazing stunts. She’s not actually an actress so she did not need a stunt double in this drama, I’m assuming anyway. Min-jae (Moon-ho’s ex) didn’t appear too much but I loved her anyway. She had self-respect but was understanding.

Young-shin’s mother was also quite amazing. She seemed weak and pathetic. She was in a wheelchair, you couldn’t mention her daughter without her having a fit. She was disabled mentally and physically. But even through it she tried to be happy and be a good wife. She didn’t wallow in her disabilities. She cooked and did chores herself even though they had servants. Then as she realised her husband may be hiding something she tried to figure it out herself, with her disabilities. Jung-hoo’s mother on the other hand was the only woman I didn’t like much. He was abandoned by her just because she couldn’t look after him without her husband. That’s horrible. But in saying that in present times she is friendly with Jung-hoo so at least the relationship is mending although it’ll never be what it ought to.

 ❤ ❤ ❤ the ‘I want to touch/kiss’ stares ❤ ❤ ❤

Another reason for loving this drama is that there’s no real love square. One can be pin pointed between Jung-hoo, Young-shin, Moon-ho and Min-jae (Moon-ho’s ex). Also there’s another guy that has a slight interest in Young-shin. But really it’s Young-shin having a crush on both guys, just a crush. Moon-ho never reciprocates Young-shin’s feelings, he just thinks of her as a little sister. Then there’s Jung-hoo and Min-jae being jealous. But not full outright angry jealous, like in many other dramas, just a bit pouty and just very cute.

The fighting scene music reminds me of I Hear Your Voice, the ones with no lyrics, it brings a gentle feel rather than the boom boom of action movies. Also, why are there English OSTs? Is this the producers trying to bring in a greater international audience? There’s Eternal Love by Michael Learns to Rock and When You Hold Me Tight by Yael Meyer which are both great songs and it really does suit the drama but Koreans usually write songs to suit the dramas so it’s weird that it’s different.

I love when shows drop foretelling hints. Good ones always do. The teacher in episode 7 said something like “Moon-shik, hurry up and get rejected, if you drag it out like this it will only fester and ruin the five of us.” How true it was. More than anyone could imagine.

❤ ❤ ❤ the loving stares ❤ ❤ ❤

Drama comparisons: Pinocchio is really similar except for the fighting aspect. They were even on TV in the same period. They are about reporters using the media to reveal secret events. Also there were old people pulling the strings in the past and present that changed the lives of the main characters. They also have components of family, prison and death.

City Hunter is also really similar. The guy fights really well and uses special gadgets. Park Min-young is in both dramas too, it’s odd. Her characters’ personalities are different but still! I prefer her Healer character, she’s happier, livelier and cuter.

Interesting to note: Do Ji-won who plays Young-shin’s biological mother also played as Ji Chang-wook’s mother in his drama Smile Again. She is beautiful and young-looking for her age. I found it a bit strange because she was meant to be the same age as her husband but she didn’t look it so it was a bit trippy.

❤ ❤ ❤ Healer / Dork ❤ ❤ ❤

Issues: Why is that heart character (like Hello Kitty) everywhere and what is it called? I can only assume it’s an advertisement. But did whichever company produce the character really pay advertising for it? There was a close up of Yewon’s (Jewelry, former) shoes in We Got Married with that heart print all over it too. The hacker lady has it, the news office has it. Healer has couple mugs of it even though he lives alone which makes no sense at all, unless Young-shin brought it over. That’s what you do when you haven’t seen the guy you like in days because he’s sick and invade his house, bring couple mugs.

When he gave her the video on the rooftop when and why did he print so many arrows and tape each to the ground? It would take so long if it was just him. And does he just carry sticky tape around with him? And they just disappeared when he did, that was a production failure. Same with the date at the movie theatres. How were there so many lit candles all lined up in an instant? Wasn’t she just kicked out of the theatre before going back in, unless she stood outside in the cold waiting. So wouldn’t there still be staff inside? How did Jung-hoo get past that? Did he do it all by himself? That would take over an hour wouldn’t it, and they were lined up so perfectly. Romantic but impossible!

❤ ❤ ❤ kiss / ‘we just kissed’ ❤ ❤ ❤

There’s a scene where Kim Moon-ho drives slightly over the lines while trying to use mobile phone. That’s why mobile phone use is banned in my country! Did the producers do it on purpose or was that a fail?

So did they sleep together or just sleep together? I’m never sure. I think they slept together? But then that means they redressed after. Some people do that I suppose but hmmm… But Koreans don’t seem to ever portray slight actions of lust on T.V. maybe in real life too?, as in it’s all or nothing. There doesn’t seem to be just making out or fondling, only sex unless they’re interrupted. That’s the vibe I get. On T.V. there’s just implied morning afters like in Healer. Later he says that nothing happened to Young-shin’s father though so I’m confused. Not sure if that was a lie.

♥ ♥ ♥ Healer / Dork ♥ ♥ ♥

Wardrobe: I think Healer’s glasses don’t have glass in them sometimes, maybe most of the time.

Colourful woollen socks are worn by both Healer and the ajumma. The scenes are shot with the socks as a focus a lot, with the toes wiggling. Cute! Also the ajumma is seen knitting quite a few times so does she knit her socks? Does she knit Healer’s?

Are Healer and Young-shin wearing couple clothes in one scene or is it a coincidence? They were wearing white, white shirt and woollen jumper for him and white woollen scarf and jumper for her. Both jumpers have thick stripes of white/off-white. His jumper has a stain on it for some reason. Wonder why costume designers got a dirty white jumper and who dirtied it?

❤ ❤ ❤ his hair ❤ ❤ ❤

Conclusion: Watch it! It’s cute, sweet, interesting, no real flaws and has a really good (looking) cast. Sweetest action/romance drama ever. I have too many feels. I love the bad guys, I didn’t just slightly pity them but still think they were an idiot at the end of the drama when their reasons for their evil was revealed. No. I loved them. But even more than that was my love for the side characters. I have an enormous amount of love for them. On top of that my love for the main characters are so immense, separately and even more as a couple. That is why this is my favourite drama and I cannot imagine that ever changing.

❤ ❤ ❤ Healer / Dork ❤ ❤ ❤
